Truth

Solomon wrote “Buy the truth, and do not sell it” (Pro 23:23). But the very idea of a single standard of truth is offensive to many people. It’s out-of-date to say that Scripture is truth, or to claim that the Bible is the complete and final word of God (cf. 2 Tim 3:16-17). Relativism rules the belief system of our modern age. However, the Son of God claims to have given us all the truth. Jesus said in prayer to the Father, “ I have given them Your word…Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (Jn 17:4, 17). Jesus is the embodiment of truth and as such man’s only pathway to God (Jn 14:7). Jesus is the eternal word of God…full of grace and truth (Jn 1:1; 14). Today, God speaks to man “by His Son” (Heb 1:1). But how does God speak the truth “by His Son”? Does God speak to us in a “still small voice” like He spoke to Elijah (1 Kgs 19:12)? The apostle Paul penned these words to Christians of his day, “the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord” (1 Cor 14:37). Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide the apostles in speaking and writing all truth (cf. Jn 14:26; 15:26; 16:13). Christians will unite on that standard of truth (Jn 17:20-21).

Compare your current lifestyle and religious practice to the truth; get your Bible out and do some checking. It may surprise you how much you have accepted that has no basis in truth. If Jesus did not teach it, and if the apostles did not practice it, then it cannot be the truth.
